Ali Ahmed Kurd elected SCBA president





ISLAMABAD ( 2008-10-28 23:51:48 ) :Ali Ahmed Kurd of the Professional Group of Lawyers (PGL) on Tuesday elected with a thumping majority as president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). According to unofficial results Ali Ahmed Kurd won the election by defeating his rival Muhammad Zafar.

After the announcement, supporters of Kurd started dancing and raising slogans in favour Ali Ahmed Kurd, the staunch supporter of restoration of judiciary specially the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

Talking to media persons, Ali Ahmed Kurd vowed to continue lawyers struggle for the restoration of deposed judges. He said that it is because of the lawyer's movement that democracy is prevailing in the country.

Kurd is not a new in bar politics, as he had enjoyed the top slot of vice chairman of Pakistan Bar Council couple of years ago. He came to limelight with the start of lawyers' movement on March 3, 2007 and earned laurel countrywide for his fiery speeches against dictatorship and establishment.

Former SCBA president Aitzaz Ahsan has said that SCBA election result shows that majority of senior lawyers wants restoration of deposed judges including deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the candidates belonging to Kurd's panel have also won their respective slots. Earlier, the polling of Supreme Court Bar Association concluded in a peaceful manner in all eight polling stations across the country. The polling at eight polling stations set up in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan , Bhawalpur and Abbottabad started at 8:30 am and continued till 4:30 pm.

Besides, eight Presiding Officers at eight polling stations, senior advocate and former Deputy Attorney General Hafiz S. A. Rehman acted as the Returning officer. The administration has made strict security arrangements to facilitate the lawyers. Above all, the Pakistan Peoples Party and PML-N, the two major political parties of the country were standing face to face as they were supporting opposite candidates.

PPP affiliated lawyers including, Attorney General of Pakistan Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, openly supported M Zafar, while PML-N is favoured Ali Ahmed Kurd for his loyalty to the lawyers' movement. Jamaat-e-Islami affiliated lawyers led by Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari also backed Kurd.

Under the SCBA Rules, the post of SCBA president is given to every province on turn basis and this time it went to Balochistan province. The former president of the SCBA Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan was from the Punjab province.

Friends i don't think its a good news...Ali Ahmad kurd is a emotional person and can't really control his temprament ..also it is very easy to play with a emotional person so i am sacred the he will be used as a escape goat...

i don't dought his sincerity he is one of the most loyal members of the movement but...
