Re: Bolta Pakistan 20th August 2008 Musharraf is a shamelessly immoral person. Corruption committed by him and his PML-Q knows no bounds. On the contrary, Ifthikhar Chaudhry is a brave and honest man. He may have committed follies in the past, but is sincere to his job. No wonder Musharraf wanted him out because he use to question Musharraf's corrupt ways. Now, if Zardari retracts his countless promises to restore the judiciary, one can only say, he and PPP in general is scared of an independent Justice system.

Re: Bolta Pakistan 20th August 2008 Musharraf's house in Islamabad is legitimate and he is not a rich man. There is no comparison between him and the enormous wealth that Zardari and Sharif have. It seems the media will continue to be obsessed with Musharraf for some time to come.

Re: Bolta Pakistan 20th August 2008 i fully agree with you Shasnahn. the matter of fact is these two scoundrels hosts and their masters Zardarii and Nawaz Sharrif bread and butter depends on blaming Musharraf and imposing there unreasonable and disgusting views on people of Pakistan. i wish if they can be impartial and can be made impartials. i wonder how people of Pakistan have such a stamina to listen to the rubbish and baseless propaganda imparted by Nusrat Javed and Mushtaq Minhas. Hosts like these will wipeout objectivity from the essence of freedom of expression. First time heard these hosts and i am utterly devastated by the appalling bias.

Re: Bolta Pakistan 20th August 2008 Anyone who allows corruption to flourish is equally responsible along with the one directly involved. Ch Pervaiz Elahi, Ch Shujaat and others had countless corruption cases but Musharraf covered them up. If musharraf believed nawaz shareef, Benazir were corrupt, why people from their parties were included in the Q league? Those people had numerous cases against them, what happened to them? During Musharraf's rule massive corruption took place. One thing I would ask Musharraf, if his policies were so good, why was inflation and mismanagement on the rise? Where did all the money from the privitisations of national institution go to? Was there any accountability? Why was there shortage of wheat, rice and other essential commodities? Where did all the money given by the US as aid( not as support for the war of ERROR) go to? Even US was suspicious of its mysterious disappearance. Musharraf himself admitted that he sold pakistanis to US in exchange of money? Where did all that money go to? Any accountability? If Zaradi is corrupt why was NRO issued by Musharraf in the first place? Who gave him this right to absolve him and his cohorts of all the crimes? Lastly, the most important aspect. Musharraf's supporters claim that during his rule the stock market gained new heights and the economy was on the rise. This is absolute non-sense. An economist would know that a stock market, especially in a country like ours, DOES NOT reflect the true economic conditions. The reason of the economic growth was too much money injected in the economy. Musharraf government did this. This is normally done to combat unemployment( monetary policy). The other objective of injecting more money in the economy is that the government spends more on infrastructure( hospitals, industries etc), as a result more people get employment and when more people get employment they spend more money and when they spend more, they pay more taxes and the government receives more money from this cycle. But Musharraf government did exactly the opposite. He and his cronies asked the state bank to print more money and inject it into the economy, now when the time came for the government to spend it, a lot of money was taken by this corrupt regime for themselves. As a result little money was spent on the infrastructure. Business communities and the elite benefited from this as the bulk of the money remained in their hands. These rich people then invested their money in the stock market to earn more profit. When a lot of money suddenly came in the stock market, the market went hay-wire and gained points in three figures that is 100s. This also proves that a stable stock maket, like India's, go up slowly and steadily because the money is regulated according to procedure. Our stock maket one day went 400 points up and the next day 500 points down. These people also used to stock wheat, sugar and other essential products, either to smuggle them abroad or to sell them at higher prices in Pakistan, just for the sake of profit. No action was taken by Mr. Musharraf's government. So, Inflation and unemployment prevailed. Next impotant thing is about the land grab that flourished during musharraf's rule. Zaradi and Nawaz shareef may be corrupt, but Musharraf too was no angel. No wonder Shaukat Aziz is not coming to Pakistan, he knows the amount of corruption he did with musharraf was unprecedented.

Re: Bolta Pakistan 20th August 2008 if indeed this corruption was unprecedent, you will have no problem in filing cases, and both Shaukat Aziz and Musharraf should be billionaires. That is not the case we see today. The economy during the Musharraf-Aziz era grew and all economic indicators, as well as the stock market are proof of this. however every growing economy still has challenges and by 2007, you saw these in the shape of inflation, high oil and food prices and shortage of electricity due to the growth. The current miserable state of the economy is because the current govt has no economic policy whatsoever, which not only is harmful but also does not inspire any confidence.

Re: Bolta Pakistan 20th August 2008 Firstly, all legal action should be taken by an independent judiciary which did not exist during musharraf's rule and every effort was made to suppress the one that did question Shaukat and Musharraf's ways. If shaukat Aziz is innocent he should come back to Pakistan and prove all of us how wonderful his policies were. And as far as Musharraf's concerned, his private jets, his stay in luxurious hotels during foreign visits( while every head of state stays in his country's embassies when he/she is not offcially invited by the host country, Musharraf chose to stay in the most expensive hotels possible.), after that his expensive bullet proof cars and their maintainance, apart from that his son's huge estates in US speak volumes of his honesty. Musharraf, if he claims to be an angel, he should have enlightened us with the current bank balance he now possess. During his last speech he could have declared his assets which he understandably didn't. All legal actions should be taken by a credible judiciary which is not being restored by Zaradari. Now the economic issue. Firstly, the population increased a lot. Leading to unemployment and other shortages. These conditions were made worse when Musharraf and shaukat aziz did absolutely nothing to cater to the needs of the growing population and infact did the opposite by NOT spending the money on the infrastructure which was initially increased in supply from the state bank. As I mentioned in my earlier comment, economic growth increases with more money in the economy but this does NOT increases Economic welfare. It is true that economic growth is seen by many people as an indicator of the wellness of an economy because people feel they are better off if economy grows, this may be true, but GDP doesnot measure welfare. GDP simply measures market activity and the amount of money in the economy. So no one can assume that a higher GDP is necessarily better. GDP can increase year after year without producing more because taxes increase, many services that are provided by the government are withdrawn and the money generated ends up pushing the GDP rate up. The actual way of measuring welfare of the people is GDP/capita and pakistan has a much lower figure than many countries. In this regard United nations compiles a list known as HDI ( human development index) which helps to understand the standings of countries in the world. Pakistan ranks 136 out of 177 countries. Here is the link of the current report 2007/2008. Statistics - Human Development Reports (UNDP)
