| Imran Khan :mistake Were Made Imran Khan: Mistakes were made Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan has criticised his country's selectors after their side lost its Test series in South Africa. The Proteas took a five-wicket win in the third and final Test at Cape Town's Newlands ground on Sunday to take a 2-1 series victory. But Khan claimed the outcome, which leaves Pakistan still to claim a series win in South Africa, could have been different had selectors originally taken strike bowler Shoaib Akhtar on tour. Akhtar was dropped prior to the series, only to arrive on tour after Pakistan's main strike bowler, Umar Gul, was injured. Shoaib then proceeded to take four wickets in just 11 overs on the opening day of the second Test - which Pakistan won - before pulling a hamstring. "Pakistan committed the blunder of not taking Akhtar from the start of the tour and his injury at Port Elizabeth could have been because he wasn't match fit," Khan claimed. "Some good things have also come out and now the team management realise Tests can only be won through match winners." South Africa won the first Test at Centurion by seven wickets, before Shoaib's belated arrival inspired a five-wicket win for Pakistan in Port Elizabeth. Khan also criticised the decision not to select batsman Yasir Hameed in the first Test, as well as Mohammad Yousuf's placement at number five in the order. "Hameed's 35 in the second innings of the third Test showed his class and to me his progress was halted by not selecting him earlier," he continued. "Yousuf is the best batsman alongside Australian Ricky Ponting at the moment but how many times has Ponting batted below three? And Ponting leads from the front." Khan also singled out Mohammad Asif for praise, the 24-year-old paceman having taken a total of 19 wickets during the series. "Asif is well on his way to becoming one of the greats," Khan added. "If he gains a little bit of pace through weight training he can be more lethal." Meanwhile, Inzamam-ul-Haq gave a forthright assessment of his side's performance, the Pakistan captain labelling it "one of the biggest disappointments of my career". "We have won many tests at home, but to be ranked among the best you have to win overseas," he told the Geo TV channel. |

| Re: Imran Khan :mistake Were Made I agree with the point of Shoaib Akhtar & Yasir Hameed. I cant understand why they did not select the both for the Ist test .as u can see we have problems with opening pair.why we dont try Taufeeq Umar? & Mohammad Yousuf at 2 down, after Younis khan & then let come Inzi & hameed.
