Latest iPhone News
Apple Reveals SDK:
Today at a town-hall meeting at Apple's Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino, Steve Jobs showed off the iPhone software developer's kit for the first time. There has been a lot of speculation about what the kit would include, and what it specifically wouldn't. Now Steve Jobs says it will have the same APIs and Tools that Apple itself uses to develop iPhone apps. Here are details:
Apple: Apple Reveals iPhone SDK
------------------------------------
Apple annunces push email, push calanders, activesyc and full exchange support
All the hand-wringing about whether or not the iPhone's suitable for corporate environments is basically being put to rest. It's getting everything a proper drone phone needs: push email, push calendar, push contacts, global address list, Cisco VPN, certificates and identities, WPA2/ 802.1x, security policies, device configuration and Remote Wipe. Plus, the biggie: Exchange support built into the native mail, calendar and contact apps, with on/off toggles for each of them under the Exchange server tab. Nike and Disney (natch) are talking about using the iPhone's corporate ActiveSync support. Will your corporate overlords?
Apple Hops Aboard Enterprise: Push Email and Calendars, Activesync and Exchange Support
--------------------------------------------------
Iphone getting multitouch games (SPORE!!!)
I've got good news and better news. The good news is that the iPhone is getting multitouch games that use the accelerometer and every bell and whistle of the iPhone for controls. The better news? Developers such as EA and Sega are on board. EA is bringing the insanely anticipated game Spore to it. All 18 levels. Yes, this is real. Oh mercy. Sega is also bringing Super Monkey Ball, and the App Store looks like it'll have a bunch of casual games available as well. Does this bring the iPhone up to DS and PSP levels? We'll have to see just how these games look and play, but it's pretty exciting stuff
Cellphones: iPhone Getting Multitouch Games, Including Spore, Super Monkey Ball
----------------------------------------
Iphone gets AIM client
Finally, after so many months, IMing is coming to the iPhone with AOL iChat native for iPhone. No more forced texting! It'll support invisible mode, you'll be able to make your own buddy icons using your stored photos, and you'll swipe to switch between conversations
Cellphones: iPhone Gets AIM Client, At Long Last
---------------------------------------------
Apple store exclusive distributer of iphone apps
Today in Cupertino, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would sell iPhone (and iPod touch) applications over App Store, which can be used over-the-air on the iPhone itself, or can be sideloaded via iTunes on a computer. It comes with the 2.0 firmware update. Apple says it's exclusive, meaning it's the only place people will go to get iPhone apps.
Apple: App Store Exclusive Distributor of iPhone Apps
---------------------------------------------
Iphone SDK Available Today for free, 99$ to publish
If you want to be an iPhone developer, you can start your twitchy fingers in about an hour, when the SDK will be available for download. It's free, but if you want to publish and distribute your programs through the iTunes App Store (the only way to do so) it'll run you $99 a year. On the bright side, budding programmers, there's a $100,000,000 iFund for developers, totally crushing Android's penny offerings. After that, Apple won't charge you anything to host or credit processing, if your app is freeotherwise they take 30 percent of the price you set
IPhone: iPhone SDK Available Today for Free, $99 to Publish Your Apps
---------------------------------------------
Apple to allow VOIP
If someone develops a VoIP program for the iPhone, Apple will only prevent it from making calls over a cell network to protect poor little AT&T. If you're in a Wi-Fi hotspot, however, go nuts. This opens up a pretty big door for developers to make some sweet programs that'll save you quite a few cell minutes. Basically, it'll allow all iPhone users to have what T Mobile offers with its @Home program but without the monthly fee, at least as soon as someone writes the program. This is gonna be huge

Sun to Bring Java to the iPhone via the SDK
Apple gave Sun kind of the cold shoulder, not giving them the opportunity to put Java on the iPhone for Java apps. Now that the SDK is out, Sun's decided to just take matters into their own hands and prep a Java Virtual Machine for the device that'll allow Java applets to run on it. The JVM for iPhone will be based on Java Micro Edition, allowing apps like games and enterprise applications.

iPhone 2.0 Unlocked with Modified Beta Firmware, Runs Any Application
The beta firmware that comes with the iPhone SDK has been modified to unlock and jailbreak the iPhone, even before its public release. Part of the Pwned Project, the hacked firmware will allow you to do anything you want, including the installation of both official and unofficial apps, and even patches. We got the exclusive details directly from the DevTeam, including the fact that it is going to be extremely hard for Cupertino to close this new hole:
pwned firmware means it's custom [firmware], you can have it install anything you would ever want :-) Pwned works with some magic, it will be hard to close but nothing is impossible (from Apple) with a mindtwist. But first, we will enjoy
They told us that this is all part of their previous Pwned project, which instead of trying to hack into the iPhone, directly patches the firmware itself to both unlock it, so you can use the iPhone with any carrier you want, and allow you to install any applications you want.
According to the Dev Team, the custom 2.0 firmware (technically, 1.2.0,) is now up and running without problems in many of their iPhones, running unsigned applications without a single problem. However, current Installer.app applications need to be changed: "they changed lots of the API, a lot. We will see how much has to be changed to the Toolchain [the previous development tool for iPhone independent developers] to still work after 2.0."
The best news, however, is this: "the hacked 1.2 firmware works with anything. AT&T and others, it's pwned. And Apple will not really be able to patch it this time... somehow "
I'm flabbergasted. As Han Solo would say, "that's one in a million, kid!" Once again.

Apple WWDC 2008 Dates Set June 9th-13th: "A Landmark Event in More Ways Than One"
Apple just announced World Wide Developers Conference dates as June 9th through June 13th. That means the keynote is likely to be set at June 9, 2008, a Tuesday Monday, and tech journos everywhere can now resume planning their summer vacations around it. What's up with the two bridges? Maybe they're talking about iPhone and Mac Dev...yes, says so on the WWDC site (from gizmodo)

Latest iPhone 2.0 Firmware Unlocked Again in 24 Hours
The iPhone Dev Team has demonstrated that Apple will probably have a very difficult time patching the iPhone to thwart their efforts: not even 24 hours after the release of the latest update for the iPhone firmware 1.2.0 (or 2.0, as The Steve calls it,) they sent us this picture showing that they have pwned it again, getting it to work completely unlocked, and run all applications. As they told us: "Apple will not really be able to patch it this time." Check the new Contacts application, which was in the Touch and seems to have been revealed in this latest revision (gizmodo)

How to jailbreak, activate, unlock, and upgrade ANY iphonw FW to 1.1.4 (NOT tested on Vista, pics to be added soon)
1) you have to restore your phone. Connect to itunes and click restore. It will then ask you if you want to backup ur info (contacts, music etc) Click yes. Then itll will ask u to restore and upgrade firmware, again, click yes. At this point its going to download 1.1.4 which is around 160mb so give it time, once its downloaded itll automaticaly relock ur phone and have it upgraded to 1.1.4.
Once this process is complete ull see that ur set will say wrong sim etc and itunes may give u an error. Dont worry, this is what you want. Close itunes.
2) Go to Unlock the iPhone - the simple tutorial! and download the ziphone software by clicking on the large picture. Once you have the software, all you have to do is click "Do it all" which will activate, unlock, and jailbreak ur iphone. Takes a few mins.
3) after its complete, reopen itunes and just resync all ur info. Thats it, ur on 1.1.4.
Note: keep ur iphone plugged in the entire time If itunes opens during ziphone process just close it.
(This is foolproof but remember do at ur own risk and follow exactly as i said.)

How to Install and use TouchPad Pro:
There is this app in installer called touchpad pro. It is simply ace. It turns your iphone into a multitouch pad (like on the macbook air etc) and you can control your pc with it. Works very easily, and the mouse movement, scrolling, selecting, right clicking, zooming etc is all flawless. Great for browsing while sitting back, controllin media player etc etc.
Try it, trust me, u will like it quite a bit.
HOW TO:
1) Start Installer and click on the Install button. Go to Utilities. Touchpad Pro should already be there.
If it isn't, go to Sources, and then add Community Sources. Touchpad Pro should definitely be there now.
2) Download TightVNC and install it.
3) If there's no icon with a V on the bottom right corner of the screen, find TightVNC in your Start Menu > Programs folder, and click on Launch VNC Server.
4) Set the password to something you'll remember.
Hover your mouse over the V icon on the bottom right corner of the screen, and write down the IP address that comes up.
5) Next, run the app on ur phone, Click on the + icon at the top right corner of the screen
Enter anything for the name
Enter the IP address or host name you wrote down earlier. This can either be four numbers with dots, e.g., 192.168.1.42
Enter the password you were supposed to remember
Click Save
Connect by clicking on the name you entered (e.g., homepc). If all goes well, you should now be connected to your PC.
Its very simple, and I have to say one of the best apps ive ever seen on the iphone. Give it a try.
Watch it in action here:
ps- i should also say, this works best via wifi, ull see no lags etc, havent tested edge yet but i will later on.

12 Future Apps For Your iPhone
(from readwriteweb.com)
With the new iPhone SDK, it's just a matter of time before we see a wave of new applications. We expect a lot of popular web 2.0 apps to offer an iPhone version. Native Twitter, Facebook and Flickr clients for iPhone will run faster than their in-browser versions and will take advantage of the impressive Apple UI libraries. But there is an entirely new breed of applications also coming to iPhone. These apps simply would not be possible without a device like iPhone.
The major theme of this new wave of apps will be blending of the physical and digital worlds, using iPhone as the bridge. In this post we take a look at what's coming.
1. Reality Tagging
Tagging reality is not new, but will be much better done with iPhone. Here's how it will work. You take a picture of a landmark, then comment and add tags. The phone will automatically geo-tag it and send the picture to a photo sharing service on the Web. Now anyone in the world can find your picture by exact geo location, or by its tags. Reality tagging will be like a distributed Google Earth, but for pictures.
2. People Tagging
Even better than tagging landmarks, you will be able to use iPhone to tag people. You can already take a picture and assign it to a contact. It is just a matter of time before these pictures will available to a search engine. Doing it on the phone will be quick and fun. In a couple of years the problem that we described in this post will go away.
3. Reality Recognition
Reality recognition will be fueled by reality tagging and advanced image recognition. Imagine going on a hike and coming across a tree that you have not seen before. You will point iPhone at the tree and instantly a Wikipedia page about it will load. Or imagine that it's your first time in New York City. You point an iPhone at the Chrysler building (because you think that it is the Empire State Building) and again information about the landmark will be paged to your iPhone.
4. Physical Social Networks
Today's social networks exist on the internet, but mobile technology is going to bring it to the physical world. You will be able to walk into a restaurant, open up your iPhone and see a list of your friends who have been to the place. You can flip through their comments and ratings, share comments on the menu - all from the palm of your hand. Similarly, standing next to a painting in the Louvre, you will be able to instantly find out what your friends thought of it. Looking at this broadly, as we discussed in this post, advances in mobile computing enable us to overlay the digital on top of our physical world.
5. Personalized Travel Guides
Travel is one of the most fun things we do in life and one of the most innovative businesses. People love tours and tour guides who tell them about the landmarks and history of new places. Now imagine having personalized tours of any location of the world available. With the touch of a button, information about your current location will appear in your hand. Even better, the tours will be custom tailored to you, since software will know your tastes and travel preferences.
6. Digital and Physical Treasure Hunt
Travel is fun, but not as much fun as games. With the latest spike in social games, we are sure to see interesting activity in mobile games as well. And with the iPhone, we will be able to play games that take place in both the physical and digital worlds. The clues will be scattered over the Internet and cities such as NYC. With your iPhone you can navigate your way through this fun physical and mental challenge, showing off your knowledge of the web and NYC.
7. Distributed Mobile Games
Casual gaming is especially on the rise these days, fueled by social networks. Applying this model to mobile devices is particularly interesting since it enables people to tap into, not web-based, but fully-fledged 3D games - anywhere. The possibilities range from setting the mood of a game based on the surroundings, to connecting players based on geo location. And even without tying the games to the physical world, the fact that people can tap into the network at any time is game changing (pardon the pun).
8. Credit Card and Biometrics as Software
The business world is also going to benefit from mobile innovation. Soon credit cards will become software. You will walk into a store and to pay, you simply choose a credit card button. The iPhone will communicate securely with the cash register in the store, via Blue Tooth or Wi-Fi. The safety of the transaction will be ensured via biometrics. For example, a clerk in the store might ask you to place a randomly selected finger onto the screen of your iPhone to verify that the phone belongs to you (assuming that all phones are securely initiated in the store and may not be reset).
9. Paperless Receipts & Digital Business Cards
We wrote here last week about the coming demise of paper as a transport medium. Among the things we discussed was the end of receipts. Even today some companies are switching to email receipts, but devices like iPhone now make it possible to manage all receipts in a digital format. You will get a receipt of your purchase on your screen via Bluetooth or Wifi. It will also be emailed to you and backed up to remote store. The advantage to having it on the phone is that if you want to return it, you can simply bring it up and beam it back to the clerk's computer.
Another piece of paper that is coming to an end is the business card. More and more people connect via LinkedIn these days, but they still exchange business cards when they meet. Palm did a good job early on of solving this problem - the business card could be beamed between the two devices. iPhone is likely to bring the digital business card exchange back in fashion and even make it big. This generation of software will automatically add the cards to contacts and connect the two of you on LinkedIn.
10. Medical records as Software
The medical industry uses the most advanced software when it comes to diagnostics, but also uses the most outdated ones when it comes to record keeping. Having your medical history available on the mobile phone will be a great way to enable all of your doctors and pharmacies to better communicate around your health. Because medical records are still mostly in paper, often doctors are not aware of all the treatments and drugs that a patient is taking. Having a simple, portable way to move your medical history around would make things much simpler.
11. Physical Browsing & Digital Shopping
The last two applications have to do with shopping. The first one is browsing things in the physical world and instantly buying them online. The experience of browsing books on Barnes and Nobles is different; and for most of us is superior than browsing on Amazon. But prices are better online, so we typically end up taking notes and then buying online. With iPhone it will be possible to take a picture of a book in the store and have it immediately appear in your Amazon shopping cart. The same can apply to many things, including clothing, houseware, etc.
12. Location/time-based deals
If you were be open to it, stores would love to compete for your business. If you are about to buy a camera at BestBuy and there is a Circuit City near by, they would be willing to win your business by bidding a lower price. Imagine pointing the phone to a camera and getting instant bids from neighborhood stores. Sure you can do this now online, but a lot of people still buy the old fashioned way - by first holding the thing in their hands.

You should now see all the important 1.1.4 fixes in ur list. These are the main repos that I use, but ill have a full post up about all of the ones i have added and why. And, as mugen said, always check in all packages by letter if u cant find something as they are dispursed in various folders.
SMB fix directions: EDITED
1. Add source http://www.123locker.com to Installer.app sources
2. Refresh sources in Installer
3. Navigate to 1.1.4 tweaks
4. Install 1.1.4 (1.1.3) compat patch, will allow all 1.1.3 apps to run on 1.1.4
5. Install Summerboard
6. Go to the main list of downloads, ull see 1.1.3/4 theme fix
7. Download that, and power ur phone off
8. Turn it on and summerboard works.
