Volkswagen has lifted the curtains off the Volkswagen Scirocco R




The top-spec Volkswagen Scirocco R will be the only model to go on sale in Australia, and it will replace the Volkswagen Golf R three-door. This is a good thing, because if you’re after a Golf R three-door, chances are you’re after a sporty hatch. The Scirocco R is exactly that, and some.

It features the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the Golf R, producing 188kW of power and 330Nm of torque. It also features a six-speed manual transmission as standard and will come with the DSG dual-clutch automatic as an option.

Performance figures for the sporty hatch consist of 6.0 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint in the DSG, and a slightly slower 6.2 seconds for the fully manual version. Top speed for both variants is 250km/h.Think of it as a Golf R three-door which has been treated with a sleeker, lower body and fresh front and rear ends.The new Volkswagen Scirocco R will go on sale early next year.
