| Tutorial for animated siggi This lesson demonstrates how to create an animated countdown avatar. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I am working with numbers, however, work with letters if you prefer - perhaps animating your name - a slogan, or your favourite football team - as I have. Once you know the basics, you will be able to produce unique avatars. Undo and Navigation Steps Two ways of undoing steps are from the top menu, Edit then Step Backwards.Alternatively, click a previous snapshot in the History Palette. Navigate (zoom in and pan) your image using the Navigator Palette, or the Zoom Tool. ![]() Activate The Hand Tool by tapping the Spacebar, keeping the Spacebar pressed, pan your image in the usual way. ![]() 1/ Open a New document and set the following attributes. ![]() 2/ Zoom into your image, then press Ctrl then I to invert the canvas colour. Your document will now be black. Extend the grey canvas by dragging a corner outwards. ![]() 3/ Now, from the top menu, choose Image then choose Canvas Size. In the subsequent Canvas Size dialogue box, set the following (neon green) attributes, then click OK. ![]() A green border will then surround your black canvas. ![]() 4/ From the toolbar, activate the Horizontal Type Tool - and enter the type attributes of your choice - ensuring the colour is set to lime green. Apply Type Tutorial Here ![]() [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ![]() After you have applied your type, centralise it with the Move Tool .![]() Note Because you have enlarged your canvas, the font looks blurred. To see how it appears at normal size, preview your image by clicking File then Save for web (and devices). Then click Cancel after you have viewed your image. ![]() After you have applied - then centralised the numbers, you are ready for the next step. ![]() 5/ Press and hold your Ctrl key, then left-click to highlight both the 10 and Background layers, as illustrated below. ![]() Then release the Ctrl key. Now, left-click once over one of the highlighted layers, and drag them over the following Create a new layer icon - found at the bottom of the Layers palette. You have just duplicated the highlighted layers; and your Layers palette will now resemble the following. ![]() 6/ Now,(working on the 10 copy layer), double-left-click the Indicates text layer (type) thumbnail - highlighted with red below-left. This activates the Type Tool, whilst at the same time, highlighting the 10 - illustrated below right. ![]() 7/ Type in the numbers 09 (over the 10 already there). This automatically removes the 10; replacingit with the 09 you have just typed. ![]() 8/ Now, click the following Commit any current edits (from the Type Tool’s Options bar) - to commit the change. ![]() After committing the change, your image - and Layers palette, will resemble the following; and you are ready for the next step. ![]() 9/ Press Ctrl, (and this time), left-click to highlight layer 09 and the Background copy layer below it. Release Ctrl, then left-click to drag both highlighted layers over the following Create a new layer icon Your Layers palette will now resemble the following. ![]() Tip Scroll your layers by dragging the following right-side scroll bar - upwards, or downwards. 10/Working on the 09 copy layer, double-left-click its Indicates text layer (type) icon - as illustrated below. ![]() Then type the numbers 08 over the 09. This automatically changes the 09 to 08 - as illustrated below-left. Now, click the Commit any current edits tick. Your number has changed to 08 - as illustrated below-right, and you are ready to create the next number - 07. ![]() 11/ Now, create numbers 07, 06, 05, 04, 03, 02, 01, 00 - After you have completed this, your exceedingly long Layers palette will resemble the following, and you are ready for the next step.

| Re: Design Siggi and avatars Note Carefully examine your layers, ensuring they are in numerical sequence. If you find an incorrect - or duplicated number, either Delete the layer - or double-left-click the thumbnail - and change it. Tip Saving your image as a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] preserves your layers; allowing future editing. 12/ Now, from the Layers palette, (press Ctrl) then left-click to highlight layer 00. Then left-click to highlight the Background layer immediately beneath it (Background copy 10). ![]() 13/ And from the top menu, choose Layers then choose Merge Layers. This merges the 00 layer with the black Background layer immediately beneath it. ![]() 14/ Now, repeat Chapter 13 - this time merging layer 01 with the black Background layer beneath it. Then merge layer 02 with the black Background layer beneath it; and so on and so forth - until layers 00 to 10 are merged with their respective Background layers. When you have completed this, your layers should resemble the following, and you are ready for the next step. ![]() Tip Again, it is a good idea to save your layered image as a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. 15/ Animating your layered image CS, CS2 and CS3 and Extended It is time to create the animation from your multi-framed image. My tutorial in the link above demonstrates how to create an animation from a multilayered image, and is suitable for Photoshop CS, CS2 and CS3 (and Extended). For personal results, always experiment with different animation settings; the settings utilised for my animated numbers are outlined below. To slow down your animation, change each frame’s Delay accordingly. To do this, click to activate each frame, and manually alter each delay. In addition, ensure you change the animation to Forever if you would like it to run continuously. To change the Delay to 0.07, click open the Delay menu, and click Other from the drop-down list. Then enter 0.7, and click OK. ![]() Tip Change the Delay for each frame, at the same time by Shift clicking to highlight all frames. Then change just one Delay time. All highlighted frames will change at the same time. ![]() ![]() ![]()
