Overseas Pakistanis will not be able to vote in elections
    Staff Reporter

Islamabad—The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided that 4 million overseas Pakistani’s will not be able to exercise their right to vote from their country of residence.

The reasons behind the decision have been described as legal hurdles and the unavailability of an adequate voting mechanism, for the 4 million overseas voters spread across 106 countries, to be able to cast their vote. If they wish to exercise their right to vote, they will have to come to Pakistan to cast their ballot.

It was also decided during the meeting, that voting will take place again, at polling stations reserved for women, where voter turn out is less than 10 percent.

Election Commission can stop the results and restart polling if any women is barred to cast vote in this regard.

Strict action will be taken against such violators.

It must be mentioned that the final approval of the bill will be given by Parliament.

Election Commission of Pakistan has registered seven new political parties.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Commission held here Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim.

The parties whose documents were found in conformity with the provisions of the Political Parties Order, 2002 are Pakistan Justice Party; Pakistan Muhammadi Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Humkhiyal, Public Forum, Pakistan Falah Party, Pakistan Hizbullah Party and All Pakistan Peoples Qaumi Movement.

The Commission also allotted the election symbol of Charpai to Pakistan Rah-i-Haq Party; Wrist Watch to Sada-e-Pakistan Party and Ring to Tehreek Ehtahad-e-Adam. The details of intra-party elections of Awami Party (Pakistan) and All Pakistan Muslim League were found to be as per law.

The Commission approved a draft bill suggesting re-poll on the polling station(s) where less than 10% of the women votes are polled. This is to ensure the number of women participation in the electoral process is increased and to prevent such groups and parties entering into an agreement restraining women of a particular area or a polling station from exercising their right to vote.

The draft was sent to the Law Ministry for legislation by the parliament.

The issue of granting right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis would be taken up in the political parties consultative meeting tomorrow.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced schedule for holding by-elections on seats falling vacant following the ineligibility of National and provincial assembly members.

According to the schedule, the by-polls will be organized on November 17, 2012.

Following are important dates in this regard: Public Notice to be issued by the Returning Officers on 05.10.2012; Nomination papers to be filed with the Returning Officers by the candidates on 08.10.2012 and 09.10.2012; Papers to be scrutinized on 10.10.2012 and 11.10.2012; Filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officers rejecting/accepting the nomination papers by 15.10.2012; Decision on appeals by the Tribunals 18.10.2012; Withdrawal of candidature by19.10.2012; Publication of revised list of candidates 20.10.2012.

    This is establishment's new strategy.

Nothing is more dangerous to establishment's interests then a SOLID MAJORITY GOVT.

Establishment knows that PPP have already committed suicide and hence they need to bring a "MUFAHIMAT KI GOVT" again to which they can control.

And in the presence of vigilant e-Media it is not possible and hence "overseas votes" to pump air into PTI's baloon only much to dent PMLn and ensure again a "UN STABLE MUFAHIMATI GOVT"
