    10 Pakistani films to watch out for in 2017

    The Pakistani film industry has come a long way. It’s refreshing to see the increase in the number of productions and improvement in technical aspects of film-making. The upcoming year promises to be full of movies that one simply cannot afford to miss.
    Here is a list of the upcoming films slated to release in 2017.
    1. Parwaaz Hai Junoon
    The war drama is all set to release in September 2017. Directed by Haseeb Hassan and produced by Momina Duraid, the film stars Hamza Ali Abbasi and Osman Khalid Butt. With the rest of the cast yet to be revealed, there’s no doubt that the movie is a potential blockbuster.

    2. Verna
    The upcoming Mahira Khan-starrer will hit screens on June 25, around Eid-ul-Fitr. The movie will be written and produced by Shoaib Mansoor under his company ShoMan Productions.

    3. Balu Mahi
    This romantic comedy is set to release on February 10 and stars Osman Khalid Butt, Ainy Jaffri and Sadaf Kanwal in titular roles. Directed by Haissam Hussain and produced by Sadia Jabbar, the film is one to watch out for.

    4. Maula Jatt 2
    Maula Jatt 2 is an upcoming Pakistani action drama film which is a sequel to 1979 cult-classic Maula Jatt. The movie will feature Pakistani heartthrobs Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi in pivotal roles. The cast also includes Sanam Jung, Shamoon Abbasi and Adnan Jaffar. Although the release dates are yet to be revealed, the film is directed and written by Bilal Lashari, co-produced by Faisal Rafi and has already generated considerable hype.

    5. Rangreza
    Musical romance Rangreza is set to release in the forthcoming year but the dates have not been confirmed yet. The movie stars Urwa Hocane alongside Gohar Rasheed, Bilal Ashraf, Saleem Mairaj and Akbar Subhani. Rangreza is directed by Amir Mohiuddin, produced by Yasir Mohiuddin and Usman Malkani and written by Akhtar Qayyum.

    6. Thora Jee Le
    A coming of age feature story, written and directed by Rafay Rashdi, Thora Jee Le is a movie for the youth. It features young, up-and-coming stars Rizwan Ali Jaffri, Bilal Abbas, Ramsha Khan, Fatima Shah Jillani, Ahsan Moshin Ikram, Kasim Khan and Salman Faisal.

    7. Chalay Thay Saath
    Directed by Umer Adil and produced by Beenish Umer and Sheikh Shiraz Mubashir, the movie’s release date is yet to be revealed. What we do know is that it promises to be a romance film. The cast boasts all-time favourites such as Syra Shehroz, Osama Tahir, Zhalay Sarhadi, Behroze Sabzwari, Mansha Pasha, Faris Khalid and Shamim Halai.

    8. Mehrunisa V Lub You
    Directed by Yasir Nawaz, the movie is slated for release early in 2017. With songs written by the legendary Indian poet Gulzar and the largest set ever built in the history of Pakistani films, this movie sure has everyone excited. Sana Javed will share the screen with Danish Taimoor in the film that promises to be a rib-tickling comedy with a strong message.

    9. Chupan Chupai
    Upcoming Pakistani comedy-thriller Chupan Chupai is directed by Mohsin Ali. The lead cast consists of Udaari villain Ahsan Khan and actor Neelam Munir. It is expected to hit screens this January. This one promises to be definitely worth the wait.

    10. Arth 2
    We will also get to see a remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1982 classic Arth byShaan Shahid. Arth 2 stars Mohib Mirza, Humaima Malik and Uzma Hassan in leading roles. Although the release date has not been revealed yet, the film is bound to make waves when it finally hits screens.
